LONDON
Lisa and Molly on Westminster Bridge with Big Ben and Parliament
We arrived in London on Monday night after a 5 hour train ride and took a taxi to the Morgan Guest House in Belgravia. The trip took a while because our hotel was near Buckingham Palace and many streets were closed in preparation for the Queen's Jubilee which was to be celebrated later in the week.
Our room was tiny but nice. It had a sink but the bathrooms were on the landings between floors.

Our bus took us around many of the sights of central London. We hopped off the bus at St. Paul's Cathedral, toured this iconic symbol of London, and then climbed 530 stairs to the top of the dome for a breathtaking view of London. (Note the arrow!)

When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.

After seeing the highlights of the British Museum, we hopped back on the bus to see these London landmarks.
Molly had one more exam at Edinburgh, so she traveled on the same train we had taken a day later. We met her at the station and took the Tube back to Victoria Station and our hotel. |
The next morning we took the Tube to the Tower of London and 1000 years of history. It's a much larger complex than we'd anticipated, and everything is very well presented. The highlight was our tour led by Barney, a highly decorated retired Royal Marine who was very, very funny.
We then made our way to Westminster Abbey, the Churchill War Rooms, Covent Garden, and capped the evening off with a live theater production of Top Hat in the West End theater district. |
Our last day in London, we crossed the Millenium pedestrian bridge, known as the Wobbly Knobbly, visited Shakespeare's Globe, and then had tea at Harrod's before catching the Eurostar train to Paris.
