LAUTERBRUNNEN
Our next stop was in Lauterbrunnen, an alpine village about 30 miles southeast of Bern, in central Switzerland. We saw so much beautiful scenery, cities, architecture, and art every day of this trip, but I think everyone in our group agreed that what we saw in Lauterbrunnen was stunning beyond words. We checked into our Swiss chalet hotel and were treated to a demonstration of how to make and serve cheese fondue by one of the hotel owners and, more importantly, got to taste what she had made. We then all had a dinner together of traditional Swiss food. The next day, Donald had arranged for us to take a trip to the top of Schilthorn, one of the highest peaks in the Alps, by way of cable cars and narrow gauge trains. We then walked to the beautiful hamlet of Gimmelwald. It was an amazing trip.

Switzerland is a small, steep country, much more up and down than sideways, and is all stuck over with large brown hotels built on the cuckoo style of architecture. Ernest Hemingway
